Target Audience
Des Moines University faculty and staff.
Purpose
This class will introduce you to the key elements you & your students need to know to help you accomplish your clinical, research, and educational goals.
Clinical Pharmacology provides clinically‐relevant information on all U.S. prescription drugs, including new and investigational drugs. This resource includes an extensive image database to help you identify drugs by the color, shape, and markings as well as Orange Book Therapeutic Equivalence ratings.
Learning Objectives
By the end of class participants will be able to independently explain key concepts and/or perform the following skills as indicated by the observation of the instructor and student’s self‐assessment:
- Identify the different types of drug information data available.
- Identify the various Monographs and describe the following data fields: black box warnings, “confused name”, BEERS criteria, HIGH Alert & ISMP High Alert, and adult vs. pediatric color coding.
- Identify how to run reports including individual patient, drug interaction, product comparison, IV compatibility, adverse reaction, and clinical comparison.
- Locate drug product information including indication, contraindication, adverse reactions, classification, NDC, manufacturer, and product.
- Identify the Patient Education and MedCounselor Sheets.
- Outline the steps for using the mobile app.
- Identify the Content Updates/RSS feed.
- Identify how to locate further training materials from the “Help Me Now” training module within the database as well as the DMU library at: http://lib.dmu.edu/db/clinicalrx.
