Educational Need

Healthcare providers may encounter patients who have experienced sexual assault, yet many report lacking the training and confidence needed to provide trauma-informed, comprehensive care. There is a critical need for education that enhances providers’ ability to recognize signs of trauma, respond with empathy and professionalism, and connect patients with appropriate support services.

The SAFE Center of Iowa is a trusted resource for survivors of sexual assault, offering compassionate clinical services, individualized client support, and community education. Their holistic, collaborative approach addresses the complex needs of survivors and helps bridge gaps between medical, mental health, and advocacy services.

This online course will provide healthcare professionals with valuable insights into best practices for supporting survivors, strengthen awareness of local and statewide resources, and promote interprofessional collaboration in trauma-informed care.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define trauma-informed patient and victim care and response.
  2. Identify access and community resources available to sexual assault patients.
  3. Recognize the impact of a coordinated SART response.
