Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Management in Adults

Purpose

Mary Greeley Medical Center Grand Rounds is a multi-disciplinary clinical activity which serves to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public or the profession.  

Target Audience

Physicians, Advance Practice Professionals, Nurses, Ancillary Staff, and Medical Students (Rotating).

Purpose

This activity addresses improving diabetes management care. Prior practice had patients hospitalized that were on diabetes technology which nursing and providers did not know how to manage. New service addresses this gap and provides additional resources for complex patients requiring insulin adjustments.

Learning Objectives

  • Better understand insulin pumps.
  • Better understand continuous glucose monitors (CGM).
  • Better understand smart pens.
  • Better understand glycogen agents.
  • Describe the scope and repercussions of increasing obesity and diabetes rates.
  • Identify inpatient and outpatient services and programs provided by Diabetes Education.
  • Identify inpatient services for insulin pump, CGM and diabetes management that are available at MGMC.
