Educational Need

Mental health is defined as emotional, psychological, and social well-being and is an essential part of everyone’s overall health. Mental health is often spoken about these days in the popular press and is particularly important to understand as it relates to someone with Parkinson’s disease (PD). As with every symptom of PD, there is a huge amount of variation between people when it comes to mental health. Some people with PD have no mental health concerns and others whose main difficulties stem from depression, anxiety, psychosis, or cognitive issues, which all can be non-motor symptoms of PD. Most people with PD deal with some degree of one or more of these four elements.

  1. Review the most common psychiatric complications of Parkinson's disease.
  2. Discuss pharmacological treatments for the most common psychiatric complications of Parkinson's disease.
  3. Discuss non-pharmacological treatments for the most common psychiatric complications of Parkinson's disease.
