Educational Need
Healthcare professionals in outpatient and non-specialist settings often encounter patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral health needs. Still, they may lack awareness of available community resources, effective collaboration strategies, and clear referral and follow-up pathways.
Practice gaps exist in recognizing warning signs that require urgent intervention and in efficiently connecting patients to appropriate mental health and crisis services, which can lead to delayed or fragmented care.
There is an educational need to strengthen providers' knowledge and skills in community mental health resources, interdisciplinary collaboration, care coordination, and timely intervention to improve patient safety, continuity of care, and overall mental health outcomes.
Learning Objectives
- Identify key community mental health resources that support mental, emotional, and behavioral health needs in outpatient and non-specialist settings.
- Demonstrate effective strategies for engaging and collaborating with mental health professionals to enhance patient care.
- Develop strategies for referral, coordination, and follow-up with community mental health agencies and support programs.
- Recognize warning signs and risk factors that warrant immediate mental health intervention, and learn to connect patients with crisis or urgent care services effectively.
