Description
This presentation highlights findings from a game-based intraprofessional and interprofessional education (IPE) event for occupational and physical therapy students. Strategies for Health is an IPE game incorporating social determinants (drivers) of health (SDOH), awareness of multidisciplinary roles, and interprofessional team skills as participants seek to collaboratively support their game characters moving through life and health events. Structured reflection and debriefing are key components of the learning experience. Changes in SDOH knowledge and attitudes, as well as student experience, will be discussed. Guidance for participants seeking to use Strategies for Health will be provided.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the implementation of the Strategies for Health game as a student interprofessional education event, including general game operation, logistical considerations, and intended learning outcomes.
- Describe quantitative changes in knowledge and interprofessional attitudes and qualitative feedback observed by presenters using the Strategies for Health game with first-year occupational therapy and physical therapy students, and second-year occupational therapy students acting as table facilitators.
- Identify considerations and next steps for implementing the Strategies for Health game in their professional setting.
