EDUCATIONAL NEED
Stillborn births affect 1 in 100 pregnancies in the United States. The cause of many stillbirths is unknown. Additionally, women that have a stillborn birth are at a greater risk to have another stillborn birth in subsequent pregnancies. A stillborn birth is a traumatic experience for families and can result in a number of mental health outcomes. Many families have expressed that they did not receive adequate information and emotional support from their physician.
OBJECTIVES
- Define stillbirth and the impact of stillbirth in obstetrics.
- Describe etiologies and conditions associated with stillbirth.
- Describe the “workup” for stillbirth.
- Describe management of subsequent pregnancy.
