Educational Need
According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, diabetes-related foot infections occur in approximately 40% of diabetes-related foot ulcers and cause significant morbidity. Clinicians should develop the ability to assess infection severity by recognizing key clinical indicators such as erythema, induration, tenderness, warmth, and drainage and identifying patient risk factors. Effective management requires appropriate antibiotic therapy for mild to moderate infections, intravenous intervention, and multidisciplinary wound care for severe or persistent infections.
