Educational Need
According to a study published by the Clinical Nursing and Quality of Healthcare, prehospital care is critical in improving patient outcomes, particularly in time-sensitive emergencies such as trauma, cardiac failure, stroke, bleeding, breathing difficulties, and systemic infections. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in clinical research in prehospital care, and several challenges and opportunities have emerged. There is an urgent need to adapt clinical research methodology to the context of prehospital care.
Learning Objectives
- Review the history of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in the United States.
- Discuss the levels of providers and the skills and training for each level.
- Discuss rural versus urban and paid and volunteer EMS providers.
- Review the relationship between EMS and other providers.
