Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Grand Rounds: Clinical Nutrition
Podiatric grand rounds will include a wide range of case studies regarding foot and ankle surgery and lectures regarding current treatment practices within the practice of podiatric medicine. Current literature will be reviewed and new procedures/treatment options will be shard and critiqued.
Target Audience
Foot and ankle surgeons, podiatric residents and podiatric students in the Des Moines area.
Objectives
- Familiarize attendees with the energy, macronutrient and micronutrient needs of those with non-healing wounds.
- Provide overview for the nutrition care process as it relates to the evaluation of the patient's metabolic needs.
- Review special considerations for patients with altered metabolic states (e.g. diabetes).
- Discuss supplementation and/or alternative feeding for patients who are unable to meet their metabolic needs for wound healing.
