  • Describe hormone regulation of appetite and why do we get hungry.
  • Identify the role of medical weight loss including medications and results.
  • Discuss the types of obesity surgery.
  • Discuss surgical weight loss results and the impact on various weight related diseases.
  • Evaluate coordination of care including psychiatric, exercise, dietary, and medical.
  • Outline the insurance approval process and national guidelines.   

Speakers

Todd Eibes, MD, FACS, graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1994 and completed his surgical residency in Detroit, Michigan. He began a career in general surgery in Grinnell in 1999. Dr. Eibes began performing weight loss surgery in 2001 and relocated to Des Moines in 2006 to specialize exclusively in weight loss surgery. Dr. Eibes began a weight loss surgery program in Des Moines and recruited a team of highly trained medical professionals. He directed the program for seven years, growing the program from 50 surgeries to nearly 500 surgeries a year. Dr. Eibes began Iowa Weight Loss Specialists in 2014 and is one of the most experienced weight loss surgeons in the Midwest, having performed thousands of weight loss surgeries since 2001.

Jon Hardersen, PA-C, received his undergraduate degree in exercise science from Northwestern College in Orange City and his physician assistant degree from Des Moines University. Jon assists with surgeries and provides both inpatient and outpatient care following surgery.

Alissa Kruger, ARNP, NP-C, received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a Master of Science in Nursing from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City. Alissa's focus is on patients going through the Medical Weight Loss program at our West Des Moines office. Alissa works closely with each of her patients to help guide them through their weight loss journey.
