Educational Need
Substance use disorders (SUDs), especially opioid use disorder (OUD), are major public health issues. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT), which combines medications with counseling, is highly effective but often underused due to stigma, lack of knowledge, and misunderstandings. Understanding MAT is key to improving access to effective care, enhancing recovery outcomes, and addressing the opioid crisis.

Prairie Ridge Behavioral Healthcare
Ms. Storjohann currently works for Prairie Ridge Behavioral Healthcare in Marshalltown, IA where she practices outpatient psychiatry and MAT. She has spent over a decade collaborating with stakeholders across Iowa, providing education, advocacy, and MAT/Behavioral Health program implementation assistance. Ms. Storjohann provides technical assistance to the Opioid Response Network and is a consultant for Sentinel University. She and her colleagues received the 2019 Addiction Policy Forum’s Innovation Award and have been featured in the New York Times and other news outlets.
