Description

The Interprofessional Mock Trauma Day at Clarkson College is an innovative, immersive learning experience designed to enhance collaboration among healthcare disciplines. This annual event brings together students from Radiography & Medical Imaging, Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), Undergraduate and Graduate Nursing Programs, and, most recently, a rural volunteer EMS team.

The simulated mass casualty scenario—a school bus accident—unfolds in the campus courtyard, where student volunteers act as victims with realistic moulage to enhance authenticity. Participants engage in rapid trauma assessment and treatment, progressing from the on-scene response to the simulation center’s emergency room, where nursing and nurse practitioner students collaborate on treatment plans. Radiography students provide imaging services both bedside and in the x-ray department, while PTA students contribute to mobility and patient care.

Prebriefing and debriefing are facilitated both in person and online, ensuring inclusivity for remote learners. Live streaming of the event further broadens the educational reach. Over the past two years, the event has evolved through continuous feedback and improvements, enhancing its effectiveness as an interprofessional learning opportunity. This presentation will explore key takeaways, lessons learned, and future directions for optimizing the Interprofessional Mock Trauma Day.
