The federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is more than just a set of privacy regulations for registrars and other record keepers. Student privacy also makes important requirements on faculty and all instructors of an institution.

Clifford Ramirez is a nationally-recognized FERPA expert and the author of FERPA Clear and Simple. With over 24 years of experience in higher education, Mr. Ramirez is currently serving as the registrar at Claremont Graduate University in California.

Mr. Ramirez is a presenter and trainer at conferences, workshops and web events for registrars, campus administrators, faculty, information technology managers, counselors, campus counsel and other audiences. He has authored six books, including the one mentioned above. Other titles include Managing the Privacy of Student Records (2002, LRP Publications) and co-author on The FERPA Answer Book (2009, Jossey-Bass).

Over 24 years in higher education, having worked at UCLA, Antioch University Los Angeles, and now Claremont Graduate University, specifically in registrar and student records management. Mr. Ramirez led initiatives for the development of the Emerging Professionals Institute in the Pacific Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (PACRAO) in 2003 and for the University of California Management and Leadership Conference (UCML) in 1995.
