Primary care physicians, nurses, providers, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.

Purpose

There are over 250,000 people in Iowa living with diabetes, and this number is expected to grow. At Iowa Diabetes, we are passionate about improving the lives of those living with diabetes through research, education, clinical care, and technology. With this increase comes the need for quality education opportunities for clinicians. From updated American Diabetes Association guidelines, new classes of medications, updated technology, and Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) / Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) recommendations, we at Iowa Diabetes want to help primary care providers and their support staff to find success in caring for their patients with diabetes. We can change diabetes together.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the differences between continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensors and how to prescribe them.
  2. Demonstrate how to obtain patients’ CGM data based on sensor type and how to run a report.
  3. Determine what glucose trends can be seen using CGM data.
  4. Evaluate CGM data to identify adjustable patient behaviors to improve time-in-range.
