Learning Objectives

  1. Explain the relationship between energy availability and RED-S symptoms.
  2. Describe the different factors that contribute to the development of RED-S.
  3. Identify individuals at high risk for RED-S and recall various screening tools that could be used with these patients.
  4. Describe the clinical presentation of RED-S.
  5. Develop an individualized treatment plan for an athlete with RED-S, including nutrition education and return-to-play decision-making, and assess if pharmacologic agents are indicated.
  6. Implement patient education strategies to assist in the prevention of RED-S.
