Purpose
The activity is designed to increase the knowledge and competence of physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding identifying, assessing and treating overweight and obese children. Given that the percent of children with obesity in the U.S. has more than tripled since the 1970’s there is a need to greater training in this area.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to improve their competence, performance and patient outcomes by being able to:
- Identify overweight and obesity in the pediatric population
- Perform the medical assessment for overweight and obese children
- Recognize national recommendations for pediatric weight management in primary car

Ashley Weedn, MD, MPH
Dr. Weedn is a general pediatrician in in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Her area of expertise is pediatric obesity. She is the medical director for the Pediatrics Exercising and Eating Responsibly (PEER) Clinic, an evidence-based, multidisciplinary referral clinic at OUHSC.
