Target Audience
The target audience for these trainings are community service providers and health professionals who would benefit from behavioral health education.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss the burden of tobacco in the behavioral and mental health population.
- Describe the different types of tobacco and nicotine products and how tobacco use is an addiction.
- Identify and implement evidence-based strategies to engage behavioral health populations with high rates of tobacco use.
- Describe Quitline Iowa and how the Ask, Advise, Refer method can be implemented in your practice.

Community Health Consultant, Iowa Department of Public Health
Tabetha Gerdner works for the Iowa Department of Public Health in the Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Division. She is the Program Manager for Quitline Iowa and the Smoke Free Homes program and provides technical assistance to tobacco prevention grantees across the state.
