Purpose

This class will demonstrate mobile access to library resources as well as provide hands on opportunities to utilize the specific apps available for download from the library.

Objectives

By the end of class participants will be able to independently explain key concepts and/or perform the following skills as indicated by the observation of the instructor and student’s self-assessment:

  • Describe the mobile access environment at the DMU library 
    • Define responsive design
    • Individual vs. institutional access
  • Identify the library resources that provide separate app access.
  • Download the following apps:
    • Access Medicine
    • Clinical Pharmacology
    • First Consult
    • UptoDate
    • VisualDX
    • Browzine

Des Moines University is located on a 22-acre campus in the heart of Des Moines, Iowa. Just west of downtown on Grand Avenue, the University is located in one of Des Moines' most prestigious neighborhoods. The campus is in a historic neighborhood filled with tree-lined streets and gracious older homes and businesses. Its central location makes it easy to access the rest of the city and outlying communities. The campus is close to the Des Moines International Airport, located on the bus line and just blocks from local shopping and downtown Des Moines.
