Target Audience
Healthcare professionals and community members.
Purpose
This conference is aimed at addressing the health inequities and disparities LGBTQ Iowans continue to experience in our state. Health care professionals and community members alike gather to hear from key experts, participate in interactive workshops, and collaborate and connect with one another. Attendees will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to cultivate safe and welcoming health care environments for LGBTQ Iowans throughout the state.
Learning Objectives
- Identify barriers that LGBTQ Iowans face when attempting to access inclusive health care.
- Recognize the importance of spiritual, social, and mental health on the overall health of LGBTQ Iowans.
- Describe discrimination that LGBTQ Iowans face and how that discrimination impacts health outcomes and overall well-being.
- Generate three action items focused on LGBTQ inclusivity to utilize in practice.

Des Moines University is located on a 22-acre campus in the heart of Des Moines, Iowa. Just west of downtown on Grand Avenue, the University is located in one of Des Moines' most prestigious neighborhoods. The campus is in a historic neighborhood filled with tree-lined streets and gracious older homes and businesses. Its central location makes it easy to access the rest of the city and outlying communities. The campus is close to the Des Moines International Airport, located on the bus line and just blocks from local shopping and downtown Des Moines.
