This year's Fall Conference will feature four local speakers with expertise in several areas related to sexual behavior and identity and their roles in professional psychological practice.
Speakers
Cora Schuhmacher, PsyD, will help psychologists learn to take a thorough sexual history with their clients and increase their comfort with doing so. Attendees will be led through exercises that enable them reflect on how their own sexual history and values affect how they view the world and the people they work with.
Paula Keeton, PhD will assist clinicians in understanding how therapy, terminology, and specific issues have shifted over decades in working with LGBTQ clients.
JoAnna Romero Cartaya, PhD, IPA Ethics Chair, will lead a presentation regarding ethics and sexual attraction in the therapeutic context. This will involve discussion of managing romantic and sexual attraction for both client and therapist.
Cari Anderson, LMSW, will give a presentation on the role of client use of internet pornography in their relationships and sexual behavior. This will include guidance regarding assessment of use of internet pornography and implementing various intervention techniques.

Des Moines University is located on a 22-acre campus in the heart of Des Moines, Iowa. Just west of downtown on Grand Avenue, the University is located in one of Des Moines’ most prestigious neighborhoods. The campus is in a historic neighborhood filled with tree-lined streets and gracious older homes and businesses. Its central location makes it easy to access the rest of the city and outlying communities. The campus is close to the Des Moines International Airport, located on the bus line and just blocks from local shopping and downtown Des Moines.

Hotel rooms are available at the Hyatt Place Hotel in downtown Des Moines for $135/night.
