Description
This Motivational Interviewing training is supported through a project partnership with the Iowa Department of Public Health and Iowa Public Health Association originally to work toward COVID-19 vaccine confidence and equity. While Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a useful tool for COVID-19 patient interactions, these skills apply in all settings and/or with any health condition.

- A person-centered counseling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change.
- It is designed to strengthen an individual’s motivation for and movement toward a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s arguments for change.
Learning Objectives
- Use motivational interviewing during clinical encounters.
- Use motivational interviewing tools and techniques.
- Incorporate motivational interviewing into your interactions with patients.
