Program Overview Program Overview

This webinar will focus on the standard of care for opioid and pain practices. Potential litigation for practicing outside of the standard of care will be discussed and examples of cases that have occurred across the country regarding providers practicing outside of the standard of care will be reviewed. 

Learning objecives

  • Review the opioid epidemic and what it means for legal liability.
  • Outline the different types of liability.
  • Discuss the liability associated with both over prescribing and under prescribing.
  • Review Board of Medicine Standards Care rules.
  • Recognize recommendations for risk management. 

Speakers

Craig Sieverding is a shareholder at the Davis Brown Law Firm in Des Moines where he practices exclusively in the area of health law. He counsels healthcare providers on a variety of regulatory and compliance issues, government investigations and contracting and reimbursement matters, including those related to prescription and diversion of controlled substances.

Adam Zenor is a partner in Grefe & Sidney's trial division. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation, white collar criminal defense, trial work, and appellate practice. He has litigated all manner of cases and secured over 20 trial verdicts for his clients in State and Federal court. Zenor has successfully litigated more than 10 appeals in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and Iowa's appellate courts. He is a Fellow in the Iowa Academy of Trial lawyers.
