Purpose

The 2021 Health Promotion Webinar Series is a part of the Iowa Department of Public Health’s Promoting the Integration of Primary and Behavioral Health (PIPBHC) grant initiatives. These virtual learnings will focus on integrating care for those with substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions, specifically addressing brain injury, tobacco use, and other chronic health states.

Educational Need

During a survey sent out to PIPBHC grantees, the need for additional trainings around topics on nutrition, brain injury and tobacco were identified. This webinar series will address the gaps in integrating the previously mentioned topics into substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery for behavioral health and health care providers in Iowa.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss commercial tobacco and disparate health outcomes for individuals with behavioral health conditions.
  • Review best practices to promote tobacco prevention and cessation in integrated care settings.
  • Define the role of trauma on early initiation and chronic use of tobacco products.
  • Address nicotine addiction and recovery for individuals who use tobacco.
