Keynote Presentation - Generative Artificial Intelligence: Welcome to the Age of Ideas

Victor Winter, PhD, Professor, Computer Science, University of Nebraska-Omaha

Since the release of ChatGPT, AI development has accelerated beyond traditional technological trends, outpacing Moore’s Law and reflecting a compounding growth pattern driven by advances in model architecture, data, and computational power. This rapid expansion has created significant infrastructure challenges, particularly in meeting large language models' computational and energy demands. Companies like NVIDIA play a critical role by supplying the hardware that enables large-scale training and deployment. The strong scaling hypothesis, which holds that increasing model size improves performance, has largely proven true, with larger models exhibiting more advanced capabilities. However, generative AI also presents serious challenges, including bias, hallucinations, and the need for transparency and ethical safeguards. As these technologies become more embedded in society, responsible development and oversight are essential to ensure they serve the public good and minimize harm.

Keynote Presentation - Amplifying the Nurse: American Nurses Association Advocacy to Advance Collaborative Care and Reimbursement

Zina Gontscharow, MPP, Director, Policy and Regulatory Advocacy, American Nurses Association

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is vital in advocating for healthcare policies that support collaborative care and equitable nurse reimbursement. In today’s healthcare landscape, which is marked by increasing patient complexity, provider shortages, and persistent health disparities, ANA’s efforts help advance policies prioritizing team-based care and fair compensation for nurses. This advocacy influences national priorities by improving care access, lowering costs, and promoting health equity. Nurses can engage in the policymaking process by effectively communicating with legislators and regulatory bodies, offering testimony, participating in public comment opportunities, and staying active in professional organizations to amplify their voices and shape the future of healthcare.

Keynote Presentation - Applied Artificial Intelligence: Transforming the Teaching, Learning, Research Workforce

Robbie K. Melton, PhD, Acting Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs, Associate Vice President - SMART Global Technology Innovation Strategies, Tennessee State University

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing healthcare education and practice, offering transformative tools for health care providers, including occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses, doctors, and other professionals. This abstract explores AI’s incorporation into educational and clinical environments, focusing on its ability to enhance training, optimize workflows, and improve patient care. AI-driven tools like virtual simulations, predictive analytics, and decision support systems empower health care providers to deliver more precise, efficient care. However, ethical concerns, data privacy, and evolving professional roles must be addressed. Key learning objectives include understanding AI’s impact on health care providers and effective integration strategies.
