The Sixth Annual GI Oncology Conference will be held in person at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, and streamed live online via Zoom. The cost to attend is the same for both options. Your preferred attendance option will be selected during the registration process.

The cost to attend is $35.

To provide insight and updates on the complexities of managing gastrointestinal cancers to the multidisciplinary population of healthcare providers.

Target Audience

Healthcare professionals with direct impact on patients who either have previously had cancer or are undergoing cancer treatment.

    Manish Chand, MBBS, BSc, FRCS, FASCRS, MBA, PhD

    Professor Chand is an internationally renowned colorectal surgeon who practices minimally-invasive procedures for colorectal and gastrointestinal diseases.  Besides working from his practice, The London Clinic, Professor Chand is also very active in teaching and training others in numerous countries to advance the learning of minimally-invasive surgeries.  Professor Chand has a strong focus on research including Computer-Aided Diagnosis and Deep Learning in relation to polyp detection during colonoscopy.   Professor Chand is the Chief Medical Officer for The AIS Channel, a Professor of Surgery at Apollo Hospitals Group, and Associate Professor and Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the University College London and University College Hospital.

    Shankar Raman, MD, FACS, FASCRS

    Dr. Raman is a board-certified Colon and Rectal Surgeon with MercyOne Des Moines Surgical Group. Dr. Raman is the Physician Lead for Surgery and Subspecialties, and the Associate Program Director for General Surgery Residency. He serves as the Director of the Rectal cancer program, the only program accredited by the  National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) in the state of Iowa.  Dr. Raman serves as a Reviewer for the NAPRC.  He is the Chair of the Self-Assessment Committee of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ASCRS).

    Viet Le, MD, MS, FACS

    Dr. Le is a Surgical Oncologist with MercyOne Des Moines Surgical Group.  Dr. Le graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia with a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.  He completed his Doctor of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and his Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, CA.  His passion is in utilizing minimally invasive approaches, especially robotics, to advance the care of patients with cancer.

    Adam Gliniewicz, MD

    Dr. Gliniewicz is a board-certified radiation oncologist with the Richard Deming Cancer Center in Des Moines, IA.  Dr. Gliniewicz received a BS with Honors at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He went on to receive a medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, IL.  Dr. Gliniewicz underwent training at Loyola University Medical Center-Department of Radiation Oncology where he also served as Chief Resident. 

    Sara Van Lennep, ARNP

    Ms. Van Lennup is a Nurse Practitioner with MercyOne Des Moines Surgical Group with a focus on surgical oncology.  She completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Mercy College of Health Science in Des Moines, IA, and a Master of Science in Nursing at Graceland University, Independence, MO.  Ms. Van Lennup also serves as adjunct faculty for the surgery residency program at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. 

    Jodi Wilson, ARNP

    Ms. Wilson is a Nurse Practitioner with MercyOne Des Moines Surgical Group with a focus on colorectal surgery.  Ms. Wilson also serves as the Rectal Cancer Program Coordinator for the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC).  Ms. Wilson received an Associate of Science in Nursing at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA, and a Master of Science in Nursing-Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner via Walden University, Minneapolis, MN.

    Matt Andres, DO

    Dr. Andres is Chief of Pathology with Pathology Associates of Central Iowa, Des Moines, IA, and Laboratory Medical Director of MercyOne Des Moines and West Des Moines.  Dr. Andres is the Lead Pathologist of the MercyOne Des Moines rectal tumor board National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer.  He started his education as a chemistry major at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.  Dr. Andres received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.  He completed a Hematopathology Fellowship with the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, Tucson, AZ.
