Target Audience

Primary care physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, substance use disorder professionals, or clinic staff who support behavioral health services.

Purpose

Led by a panel of behavioral health experts, Behavioral Health ECHO helps participants learn best practices for treating common mental health conditions and connect with peers from around the state to discuss and learn best practices in identifying and treating behavioral health issues. The curriculum is delivered at no cost through case-based learning strategies via video conferencing technology.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explain the role of community health workers (CHWs).
  2. Define how CHWs improve access to health services.
  3. Recognize the contribution of CHWs to building resilient communities.

Speakers

Taylor Dominguez, MPH
Community Training and Education Manager, Global Center Applied Health Research, Arizona State University (ASU)

Taylor is the Community Training and Education Manager at the ASU Office of Community Health, Engagement, and Resiliency. She received her Master of Public Health in May 2020 with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health. Taylor joined the OCHER team in August 2022 and works to create culturally relevant trauma-informed training and resources for Community Health Workers and other health professionals that address toxic and traumatic stress for children, youth, and families. Taylor’s professional interests include mental health promotion, maternal and child health, border health, and addressing health disparities.

Dana R. Hunter, PhD
Assistant Director, Research Portfolio Manager, Office of Community Health, Engagement, and Resiliency, Arizona State University (ASU) and Executive Director, Human Trafficking Prevention, Louisiana Governor's Office

Dr. Hunter is the Assistant Director, Research Portfolio Manager at the ASU Office of Community Health, Engagement, and Resiliency. She received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Work from LSU. Presently, Dr. Hunter serves as Governor John Bel Edwards and First Lady Donna Edwards lead staff person for their “No Kid Hungry” Initiative to end childhood hunger in Louisiana. Dr. Hunter and her multi-disciplinary team of agency and policy leaders develop and implement the state’s evidence-informed plan to end childhood hunger.

Nury Stemple
Research Specialist, Global Center Applied Health Research, Arizona State University

Nury has over 20 years of experience as a Health Educator/Community Health Worker, conducting outreach and engagement in vulnerable communities and collaborating with community-based organizations and key stakeholders. She provided direct services to community members, including conducting care plans to evaluate effectiveness, documenting interventions, conducting psychosocial assessments, and making referrals within the community and resources. She also Implemented community outreach and engagement plans. Nury previously worked as a health educator at the University of Arizona in the College of Medicine Mobile Health Program and the UA Cancer Center. Her areas of expertise include public health education, and maternal and child health, she has a passion for advocating and empowering families, strengthening resiliency, and addressing health disparities.
