Objectives

  1. Discuss relevant, inclusive, and affirming clinical terminology to use when providing care for patients who identify as transgender.
  2. List common medical and therapeutic interventions that can be provided along the spectrum of trans healthcare.
  3. Identify and carefully consider salient ethical questions when providing care for patients who identify as transgender.

Educational Need

Pelvic health physical therapy benefits individuals who have undergone gender-affirmation surgical procedures. It can help reduce pelvic pain by treating connective tissue and myofascial restriction and assisting with postural changes in the pelvis. Treatments to increase pelvic floor muscle control can aid with bladder and bowel dysfunction and optimize pelvic health.
