Session Proposal Submission Form

Have you encountered an interesting clinical case, seen a patient with a unique history, condition, and/or treatment protocol, or been involved with interprofessional management that improves patient care and treatment outcomes? If so, Des Moines University (DMU) Continuing Medical Education (CME) invites you to submit a session proposal for the DMU Grand Rounds series!

Background

DMU Grand Rounds activities are 50-minute case-based presentations that provide an opportunity for learners to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios. Sessions are multidisciplinary in nature and may cover various topics, such as the diagnosis, pathogenesis, and/or therapeutic intervention for a specific condition or group of conditions. Content should be related to patient care and applicable to multiple healthcare team members.

Preference is given to proposals that include two or more presenters from differing medical professions or specialties. It is strongly encouraged that the session consists of a patient and/or a family member or caregiver to share the story about their experience from the onset of symptoms through diagnosis and treatment/management.

Format

DMU Grand Rounds activities are offered in a hybrid format, with some learners participating on-site at DMU and some online via Zoom. Presenters are encouraged to participate in person at DMU but can participate virtually if desired. Sessions are held monthly from February to May (spring), and September to December (fall) on a Thursday at 7 - 7:50 am Central Time.

Content should include at least one patient case (real or fictitious) with relevant history, diagnostic information, and therapeutic intervention. Unique and exciting cases are encouraged, but more common conditions are also relevant and acceptable. Presenters are encouraged to make their session interactive and have access to audience response technology to help facilitate engagement with learners through polling questions.

Target Audience

The typical audience for DMU Grand Rounds is diverse and may include physicians (MD/DO), advanced practice providers, nurses, physical therapists, medical students, and more. Approximately 250-300 individuals are in attendance at each session, and it is recommended that content uses appropriate terminology and is digestible at the level of a first-year medical student.
