PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Addiction medicine has evolved over the years. This session will review the history of addiction medicine as a medical specialty and discuss the important changes that have recently taken place in the field. The role of an addiction medicine specialist will be highlighted in the context of the ongoing opioid crisis. Participants will learn the pathways to board certification in addiction medicine and ways to pursue this certification as a secondary role within their organizations.

Speaker

Dr. Timothy K. Brennan is the vice president for medical and academic affairs at the Addiction Medicine Foundation. He is also serves as director of the Addiction Institute at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospitals in New York City and director of the fellowship in Addiction Medicine Program at the Icahn School of Medicine Mount Sinai in New York City.

Dr. Brennan has spoken at local, state, national and international levels about addiction policy issues, particularly as related to young adults. He is the co-editor of Lippincott's "Essentials of Addiction Medicine,” and was appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to serve on the Medical Review Board at the New York State Justice Center. He is a frequent contributor in the media regarding addiction issues and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, CBS News, US News and World Report, and NPR.

He completed his fellowship in Addiction Medicine at The Addiction Institute, a fellowship in Medical Ethics at Harvard Medical School, and a residency in Pediatrics at New York Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Brennan is ABMS Board Certified in both Pediatrics and Addiction Medicine. Full biography.

  • Each organization that registers is required to provide an email address.
  • The email address listed will be sent log-on information and handouts at least 24 hours before the webinar.
  • Registration fee is charged per phone line.

  • No shows will be billed.

Cancellation / Refund Policy

  • A full refund will be given to all cancellations received 10 or more business days prior to the program.
  • A $25 administration fee will be charged to all cancellations received six to nine business days prior to the program.
  • No refunds will be given to cancellations received five or fewer business days prior to the program.
  • Refunds will be calculated by the date received and the IHA business days remaining prior to the program.
  • IHA reserves the right to cancel the program due to insufficient enrollment in which case pre-registered participants will be notified and full refunds provided.
