Target Audience

Learning Objectives
- Apply best practices when selecting methods appropriate for formative, summative, and high-stakes evaluations.
- Compare and contrast instruments to ensure accurate and consistent evaluation of learners’ achievement of outcomes.
- Discuss challenges associated with evaluation of high-stakes simulation-based learning experiences.
- Exemplify use of New World Kirkpatrick Model (2016) levels of training to evaluate translational science (T1 to T3) outcomes.
Speakers
Leslie Graham, RN, MN, PhD(c), CNCC, CHSE, CCSNE
Ms. Graham, is coordinator of the RPN to BScN Bridging Program, and professor, nursing/adjunct professor in the Ontario Tech University –Durham College (OT-DC) Collaborative Nursing Program. Currently a doctoral student at the University of Western Ontario, where her research interests involve faculty development for simulation-based learning in nursing education. Professor Graham elevates simulation as pedagogy through national and international presentations and publications. Being a passionate educator, Professor Graham has received several awards in recognition of excellence in nursing education, most recently INACSL’s President Award. As result of early work in simulation-based education, she was the recipient of the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year.
Jane B. Paige, PhD, PhD, RN CCNE, CHSE
Dr. Paige is a Professor and undergraduate program director at the Milwaukee School of Engineering - School of Nursing. Her research interest focuses on simulation-based learning and interprofessional education. Dr. Paige is a past member of the INACSL Standards Committee who were responsible for the 2016 revision of the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: SimulationSM. Dr. Paige was a lead developer for one of the courses in the INACSL Simulation Education Program (ISEP) program. Dr. Paige has published and presented nationally and internationally on simulation, problem-based learning education, faculty development of simulation educators, as well as Q-methodology.
Moderator
Nehad El-Sawi, PhD
Dr. El-Sawi is assistant provost of educational innovation and enhancement at Des Moines University. She received her doctorate degree in Microbiology from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland; master of sciences from University of Dayton, Ohio and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at University of California School of Medicine at Irvine. She has completed numerous postgraduate educational advancement programs including the Harvard Macy programs for Educators in the Health Professions; and Leaders in Healthcare Education; the University of Maastricht School of Medicine Program for Expanding Horizons in Problem-Based Learning in Medicine; the AAMC Medical Education Research Certificate; and the National Association of Community Health Center training of New Medical Directors.
Dr. El-Sawi has been actively engaged in medical student education for more than twenty years and has extensive experience, at both established and new medical schools, in curriculum design, student academic assessment, program evaluation, faculty development and accreditation and is an invited faculty at Harvard Macy Institute for Educators in Health Professions program.
During Dr. El-Sawi’s career, she had the opportunity to lead a number of medical education ventures, held offices in numerous professional organizations, and chaired regional and international conference programs. Her contribution to medical education has been recognized with several awards including Missouri Governors’ Award for Excellence in Teaching and regional AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) Best Research in Medical Education Established Investigator Award.
