Target Audience

The target audience for this conference is community service providers and health professionals who would benefit from behavioral health education.

WHAM is a training for participants who agree to (1) create and work toward a person-centered goal for new health behavior and/or (2) participate in peer support to reach their whole health goal.

Purpose

Currently there is no specialized training for peer support specialists focused on whole health of the patient, which leads to overall poor health outcomes. After this two-day training, participants will be able to identify strengths, develop weekly action plans and use positive reinforcement to meet a goal. Rather than work alone, WHAM encourages participants to collaborate and support the patient.

Learning Objectives

WHAM is easy to use and implement in health care settings. This train-the-facilitator program gives peers 10 science-based whole health and resiliency factors to identify strengths and supports:

  • Identify strengths and supports in 10 science-based whole health and resiliency factors.
  • Write a concise whole health goal based on person centered planning.
  • Create and log a weekly action plan.
  • Create new health behavior.
  • Elicit the Relaxation Response.
  • Engage in cognitive skills to avoid negative thinking.
  • Prepare for basic whole health screenings.
  • Use shared-decision making skills and tools for engaging with doctors.
