Neurology Pearls: Migraine & Tension Type Headache Evaluation & Treatment
Mary Greeley Medical Center Grand Rounds is a multi-disciplinary clinical activity which serves to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public or the profession.
Target Audience
Physicians, Advance Practice Professionals, Nurses, Ancillary Staff, and Medical Students (rotating).
Purpose
- Become more aware of the step care approach to managing migraine in order to improve outcomes.
- Reduce or avoid rebound headaches due to overuse of abortive medications.
- Understand when additional testing is required and will be cost effective in both treatment and diagnostic testing.
- Become more aware of newer treatments.
Learning Objectives
- Differentiate between tension and migraine headache disorders.
- Recognize and understand treatment options for acute, preventative, and chronic therapy.
- Discuss future treatment options.
