OBJECTIVES
- Discuss the indications, contraindications, and precautions related to using functional electrical stimulation (FES) post cerebral vascular accident (CVA).
- Differentiate between normal muscle activation and FES-evoked activation.
- Design an electrical stimulation treatment session for post CVA muscle recovery and adjust parameters for optimal contraction.

Physical Therapist, Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital
Dr. Larson is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and Physical Therapist with Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital and Mercy Medical Center. She has more than 8 years of experience treating patients with neurological deficits in an inpatient rehabilitation facility. Dr. Larson received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Des Moines University in 2010.
