Student Conduct in the Online Environment

Des Moines, IA US
April 16, 2014

Today’s learning environment continues to evolve into more and more online class opportunities and distance learning programs. Students in these classes are expected to conduct themselves as responsible members of the campus community, but do they know exactly what is expected of them?

As these classes become more abundant and accessible, your institution needs to ensure that clear policies are in place regarding academic integrity and online student conduct situations — and that you are prepared to adjudicate violations accordingly.

  • What are the potential concerns?
  • How will you address behaviors exhibited by students participating in distance education programs and/or online courses?
  • In handling online student conduct violations, how will you honor the culture and policies of your institution of higher education?

Join your colleagues from across the country for an interactive webinar designed to teach you about online student conduct concerns and offer you best practices for policy development, the review of infractions and the adjudication of cases.

Objectives

  • Understand the concerns involved with distance learning programs and online courses.
  • Develop clear student conduct policies for managing students in an online environment.
  • Understand how to better respond to cases originating from distance learning and online courses, including but not limited to cases involving threats to others, Title IX, academic integrity, and the use of types of social media to violate policy.
  • Develop a system for soliciting reports of possible violations from the campus community.
  • Learn strategies for effectively working with other campus entities in the handling of potential safety concerns that pose a threat to the community.
