Description
Interprofessional education (IPE) has gained increasing attention in recent years as a vital component of healthcare training and practice. The World Health Organization defines IPE as grouping students from two or more health professions together to learn about, from, and with each other to improve health outcomes. Given the need for these educational experiences, IPE programming was developed in 2023 by faculty in the Physician Assistant and Physical Therapy programs to improve student outcomes. Programming included asynchronous interactive collaborative lecture and synchronous IPE interactive clinical education, with a specific focus on the collaboration between Physician Assistants (PAs) and Physical Therapists (PTs).
Learning Objectives
- Describe the roles and scope of practice of both Physician Assistants (PAs) and Physical Therapists (PTs).
- Determine appropriate indications for referral to a physical therapist.
- Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration strategies between PA/PTs to enhance teamwork and improve patient care.
