Target Audience
Healthcare providers.
Purpose
Lifestyle medicine is a term some may not know and encompasses much of what healthcare providers need to empower clients to change health behaviors. This course lays the foundation for understanding lifestyle medicine, its history, and the importance of empowering clients to move from illness to wellness.
Learning Objectives
- Differentiate the Keirsey Temperaments and Enneagram types.
- Extend guided motivational approaches to lifestyle medicine practice.
- Compare and contrast the impact of eudaimonia and hedonia on health and longevity.
- Explain the impact of social connectedness on emotional well-being.
- Cite scientific evidence relating to the impact of depression and anxiety on pain, physical health, and lifestyle behaviors.
- Classify relevant screening tools for pain, stress, anxiety, and depression.
- Summarize the benefits of positive psychology and gratitude for all phases of illness and health.
- Explain how adults with adverse childhood events can have physical and mental health disparities as adults.

Speakers

A.J. Steele, PsyD, LCADC, TPS
Vice President of Faculty Experience, Evidence In Motion
Dr. Steele's educational journey started as an art major at Manchester College in N. Manchester, IN, and continues to this day. She earned a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies at Manchester, with a focus on Psychology and Sport Sciences. Afterward, Dr. Steele traveled to East Lansing, MI, to attend Michigan State University and earned an MA in Health and Human Performance with an emphasis in Sport Psychology. Wanting to become a licensed psychologist, she moved to Louisville, KY, and graduated from Spalding University with an MA and PsyD in clinical psychology.

Jen Uschold, PT, CFMT, TPS, NBC-HWC
Program Director, Lifestyle Medicine, Evidence in Motion
Ms. Uschold graduated from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania and worked in a variety of physical therapy settings, including travel physical therapy, before focusing on outpatient care for the past 25 years. Her clinical approach has been strongly influenced by the Institute of Physical Art and Evidence In Motion (EIM), and she incorporates wellness coaching into her practice as a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach and Certified Positive Intelligence Coach.
Ms. Uschold actively teaches and serves with organizations including Rehab Connections, The Jackson Clinics, and the Institute of Physical Art, and currently serves on the EIM teaching team and as Program Director for the Certification in Lifestyle Medicine.
