Eating Disorders and Weight Inclusive Care
Purpose
Mary Greeley Medical Center Grand Rounds is a multi-disciplinary clinical activity that maintains, develops, or increases the knowledge, skills, professional performance, and relationships a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession.
Target Audience
Physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, medical students (rotating), non-medical students (rotating), and healthcare administrators.
Learning Objectives
- Provide an overview of eating disorder diagnoses.
- Discuss how weight stigma leads to eating disorders.
- Share an alternative, weight inclusive approach to healthcare.
Speaker
Kathleen O’Connor, LMHC, CEDS
Ms. O’Connor's clinical focus lies with eating disorders and body image issues. She has worked in the eating disorder treatment community for 7+ years in a variety of capacities including inpatient, residential, and crisis stabilization programs. She is passionate about eating disorder recovery and collaborating with patients to find balance in their lives. She is am anti-diet and HAES aligned. O’Connor believes that therapy provides a safe space to be yourself in a supportive environment, helping to meet you where you’re at and work towards creating lasting change.
Ms. O’Connor is a certified eating disorder specialist, supporting individuals to develop a healthier relationship with food and their body, from eating disorders and everything in between, as well as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, low motivation, adjusting to adulthood, perfectionism, managing everyday stressors, and relationship issues.

- DO: Des Moines University (DMU) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. DMU designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 2-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.
