Target Audience
The primary target audience is athletic trainers, emergency medical technicians, and first responders; however, all interested healthcare professionals are invited to attend.
Purpose
The goal in an emergency is to optimize and streamline care by solidifying an emergency action place. Attendees will collaborate and discuss current literature and recommendations for spinal motion restriction, especially for emergencies on the ice. Further discussions will include equipment management, transportation of minors, pain management strategies, and primary and secondary assessments.
Learning Objectives
- Review the current research and practices for selective spinal motion restriction.
- Review the current research and practices for bleeding control/management.
- Apply the most appropriate West Des Moines Emergency Medical Services protocols to the management of various simulated patients presenting with sports-related injuries and sudden cardiac arrest.
- Coordinate a simulated patient's response, care, and safe extrication with a team of varying expertise and specialized equipment.
- Discuss the procedures for obtaining consent to transport minor patients with parents on or off-site.
