Speakers

Leslie Graham, RN, MN, PhD(c), CNCC, CHSE, CCSNE

Ms. Graham, is coordinator of the RPN to BScN Bridging Program, and professor, nursing/adjunct professor in the Ontario Tech University –Durham College (OT-DC) Collaborative Nursing Program. Currently a doctoral student at the University of Western Ontario, where her research interests involve faculty development for simulation-based learning in nursing education. Professor Graham elevates simulation as pedagogy through national and international presentations and publications.  Being a passionate educator, Professor Graham has received several awards in recognition of excellence in nursing education, most recently INACSL’s President Award. As result of early work in simulation-based education, she was the recipient of the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year. 

Barbara Sittner, PhD, RN, APRN-CNS, ANEF

Dr. Sittner is the Simulation Center Director at Bryan College of Health Sciences in Lincoln, Nebraska. Dr. Sittner has published simulation research studies; developed scenarios for publication; led faculty workshops; mentored nurse educators nationally and internationally on the use of simulation as a teaching strategy; coordinates and teaches an international online graduate simulation certificate program. Presently she is involved with providing formalized simulation education to those who utilize simulation as a teaching/learning modality.  

As Chair of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation & Learning Standards Committee she led international, teams of simulation experts to publish the 2016 INACSL Standards of Best Practice:  SimulationSM in 2016 and the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: SimulationSM: Operations in 2017.  She was an Associate Editor for the 2016 Healthcare Simulation DictionaryTM. Her scholarship focuses on simulation pedagogy and training. 

Moderator

Nehad El-Sawi, PhD

Dr. El-Sawi is assistant provost of educational innovation and enhancement at Des Moines University. She received her doctorate degree in Microbiology from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland; master of sciences from University of Dayton, Ohio and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at University of California School of Medicine at Irvine. She has completed numerous postgraduate educational advancement programs including the Harvard Macy programs for Educators in the Health Professions; and Leaders in Healthcare Education; the University of Maastricht School of Medicine Program for Expanding Horizons in Problem-Based Learning in Medicine; the AAMC Medical Education Research Certificate; and the National Association of Community Health Center training of New Medical Directors.

Dr. El-Sawi has been actively engaged in medical student education for more than twenty years and has extensive experience, at both established and new medical schools, in curriculum design, student academic assessment, program evaluation, faculty development and accreditation and is an invited faculty at Harvard Macy Institute for Educators in Health Professions program.

During Dr. El-Sawi’s career, she had the opportunity to lead a number of medical education ventures, held offices in numerous professional organizations, and chaired regional and international conference programs. Her contribution to medical education has been recognized with several awards including Missouri Governors’ Award for Excellence in Teaching and regional AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) Best Research in Medical Education Established Investigator Award.
