Target Audience

Physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, massage therapists, craniosacral therapists, lymphatic specialists, and chiropractors with foundational knowledge and experience in basic cranial techniques.

Learning Objectives

Apply screening techniques to identify patients who may have myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) or fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS).
Examine patients for early physical symptoms and clinical signs associated with ME/CFS and FMS.
Identify etiological and maintaining factors that may contribute to the development or persistence of ME/CFS and FMS.
Assess the severity of a patient’s condition and evaluate factors that may influence prognosis.
Demonstrate manual treatment techniques targeting the neurolymphatic system.
Explain the proposed pathogenesis of ME/CFS and FMS from a biomechanical perspective.
Develop management strategies for patients with ME/CFS and FMS that support patient function and well-being.

Dr. Perrin qualified from the British School of Osteopathy (now University College of Osteopathy) in 1984. During his training, he spent three years in the children’s clinic, where he developed extensive experience in craniosacral techniques. He has also worked with elite athletes, including Olympians, and served as an official osteopath for the 1991 World Student Games in Sheffield, UK.

Since 1989, Dr. Perrin has researched the diagnosis and treatment of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). In 2005, he earned his doctorate from the University of Salford for research examining the involvement of cerebrospinal fluid and lymphatic drainage in ME/CFS. He has served as Research Director of F.O.R.M.E. Trust, the Fund for Osteopathic Research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, since 1996.

Dr. Perrin has held academic and research appointments at the University of Central Lancashire and the University of Manchester. He was chief investigator of a joint University of Central Lancashire and National Health Service research project examining the accuracy of a physical diagnostic technique for ME/CFS. Findings from this work were subsequently published in BMJ Open.

An internationally recognized lecturer and educator, Dr. Perrin has presented his research at conferences of the International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (IACFS/ME) and has taught osteopaths, physical therapists, chiropractors, physicians, and other healthcare professionals worldwide. He joined the international faculty of Osteopathie Schule Deutschland in 2015 and has taught throughout Europe, North and South America, Africa, and Australia.

Dr. Perrin is the author of The Perrin Technique: How to Beat CFS/ME, first published in 2007, with a second edition released in 2021. In recognition of his contributions to osteopathic research and practice, he received the Institute of Osteopathy’s inaugural Research and Practice Award in 2015 and was appointed Vice-Patron of the University College of Osteopathy.

He currently serves as an Honorary Clinical Research Fellow in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health at the University of Manchester and practices in multidisciplinary clinics in Manchester and near London.
