Purpose

"Clinical Decision Support" or “Point of Care” resources are designed to provide quick access to clinically relevant answers at the point of care.  This class will feature resources offered by the library that are helpful to busy practitioners in clinical setting.

Objectives

By the end of class participants will be able to independently explain key concepts and/or perform the following skills as indicated by the observation of the instructor and student’s self-assessment:

  • Identify four point of care databases provided by the DMU Library
    • First Consult / Clinical Overviews
    • UptoDate
    • VisualDX
    • Clinical Pharmacology
  • Practice utilizing these resources in a point of care scenario
    • Compare coverage between resources
    • Compare search interfaces
    • Discuss mobile access options

Des Moines University is located on a 22-acre campus in the heart of Des Moines, Iowa. Just west of downtown on Grand Avenue, the University is located in one of Des Moines' most prestigious neighborhoods. The campus is in a historic neighborhood filled with tree-lined streets and gracious older homes and businesses. Its central location makes it easy to access the rest of the city and outlying communities. The campus is close to the Des Moines International Airport, located on the bus line and just blocks from local shopping and downtown Des Moines.

Continuing Education Credit
