PURPOSE
Every year the MercyOne Katzmann Breast Center Iowa and the MercyOne Richard Deming Cancer Center present a Breast Cancer Symposium for all healthcare professionals and individuals interested in the care of patients diagnosed with breast cancer. The 2023 theme is Wellness Along the Breast Cancer Journey. Up-to-date information is presented by providers active in caring for breast cancer patients.
Target Audience
This program is intended for all healthcare professionals and individuals interested in the ongoing care and concerns of patients who have survived breast cancer. Breast cancer survivors are encouraged to attend.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss how genetic testing impacts breast cancer risk and treatment for patients and their family members.
- Define mindfulness and how it can benefit breast cancer patients.
- List three gynecological side effects and treatments for breast cancer patients undergoing endocrine therapy.
- Discuss how dietary treatment can reduce postoperative complications after breast cancer surgery.
- Define the roles of three specialty physicians caring for breast cancer patients.
- Describe the impacts of long-term care placement on marriages.
