Description
The interconnection between oral and behavioral health is complex, each affecting and impacting the other. This session will explore this complex bidirectional relationship and offer strategies and resources for providers across all service lines to support whole-person health for people with intersecting oral and behavioral health care needs.
Learning Objectives
- Define the bidirectional relationship between oral and behavioral health (mental health and substance use).
- Identify strategies for increased coordination and integration across service lines (mental health, substance use, dental care).
- Offer resources for further education on supporting patients with intersecting oral and behavioral health needs.
Speakers
Tiffany Conroy, MSW, LISW
Integrated Health Consultant, Iowa Primary Care Association
Tiffany is an Integrated Health Consultant with the Iowa Primary Care Association. In this role, she is responsible for supporting and expanding the integration of behavioral health programs in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in Iowa. Before this role, she worked as a trauma therapist, specializing in intergenerational trauma and survivors of violent crime, for eight years in Chicago and the Des Moines area. Additionally, she has worked in public health and served as the Injury Prevention Program Manager for the Iowa Department of Public Health. In this role, she led the state’s prevention efforts related to intimate partner and sexual violence and violent death. Tiffany brings a trauma-informed and healing-centered approach to all her work and believes in people’s ability to heal given the right environment, both inside and out!
Addie Trueblood, MA
Integrated Health Consultant, Iowa Primary Care Association
Addie is an Integrated Health Consultant with the Iowa Primary Care Association. Her primary responsibilities include integrating oral health in Iowa’s community health centers and supporting the centers in their work with maternal health. Before this role, she worked as an Outreach and Education Specialist for Delta Dental of Iowa with their Government Programs, where she led efforts to connect Medicaid members to oral health services. Additionally, she has experience in public health and served as a Community Health Consultant for the Iowa Department of Public Health. While there, she served as the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) Coordinator and co-Adolescent Health Coordinator for the state, bringing awareness to the importance of adolescent health and positive youth development.
