Description

This presentation will educate pediatricians and pediatric providers about the resurgence of measles: how to recognize measles, recommended diagnosis and management of measles, current status, and epidemiology, including vaccination coverage rates in Iowa, and CDC and AAP PFL recommendations for infection prevention and control that are extremely important to prevent the spread of measles and CDC vaccination recommendations.

Speaker

Ashlesha Kaushik, MBBS, MD, FAAP

Dr. Kaushik is presently the Medical Director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Unity Point Health, Sioux City, Iowa, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Kaushik is the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) national spokesperson, a member of the Iowa American Academy of Pediatrics Board of Directors, and a recipient of the 2019 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Childhood Immunization Champion Award for Iowa.

Dr. Kaushik is the AAP Iowa Chapter Immunization representative and AAP Iowa Chapter Infectious Diseases Champion and serves on the Iowa AAP Legislative Committee and IA AAP Committee on Immunization. As AAP Iowa Chapter Immunization Representative, Dr. Kaushik has been at the forefront of AAP efforts toward building the Iowa immunization coalition-IA Immunizes and is the chair of the coalition scientific advisory committee and serves on the coalition steering committee. Dr. Kaushik serves as national expert faculty for CDC Project Firstline/American Academy of Pediatrics Infection Prevention and Control ECHO (AAP IPC ECHO) provider education program for COVID-19.

Among her publications, her recent systematic review on SARS-COV-2-associated Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) has been cited by World Health Organization Clinical COVID-19 guidance.
