Description

This session will focus on common tips designed to help with work-life balance and work-life integration (whichever you prefer). We’ll try to sharpen skills to improve time management, ways to stay focused, how to better compartmentalize, and how to decompress successfully. This session supports educators in developing the personal and professional resilience necessary to be effective teachers, leaders, and role models in academic medicine.

Learning Objectives

  • Review current literature describing the tension between work lives, personal lives, a “culture of busy,” and burnout.
  • Identify tools and strategies to help improve time management, maintain focus, and prevent burnout.
  • Discuss ways to improve recharging and decompressing.
  • Identify some tools to help compartmentalize to keep work in the work bucket and personal matters in another bucket.
  • Explore how personal well-being influences teaching, leadership, and learner support, and identify small changes that can improve both faculty and institutional culture.
