Target Audience

Primary care physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, substance use disorder professionals, or clinic staff who support behavioral health services.

Learning Objectives

  • Review academic literature on addiction disorders and poverty.
  • Describe the intersection of addiction disorders with poverty, including the local context.
  • Review best intervention practices for individuals presenting with a substance use disorder.

Speaker

Nicolas Foss, MS, IADC, BACC, ICGC-II
Associate Director for Treatment Services, Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services of Southeast Iowa

Mr. Foss is the Associate Director for Treatment Services at Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services of Southeast Iowa. He is an International Alcohol and Drug Counselor, International Certified Gambling Counselor II, and Board Approved Clinical Consultant. Mr. Foss has specialized in treating problem gamblers for the past nine years. He is now focused on developing broader evidence-based addictions treatment programming at a private non-profit agency in Burlington, IA. Nicolas is an adjunct faculty member at Iowa Wesleyan University and a doctoral student at Grand Canyon University in behavioral health leadership.
