Purpose

Lifestyle medicine is a term that some may not be familiar with and encompasses much of what a healthcare provider may need to know when empowering clients to change health behaviors. This course sets the foundation for identifying what lifestyle medicine is, the history of this area of healthcare, and the importance of empowering clients to go from illness to wellness.

Learning Objectives

  1. Recall the current state of health in our culture and why implementation of Lifestyle Medicine (LM) is needed.
  2. List the impact of lifestyle behaviors on health and performance in any environment.
  3. Interpret scientific evidence that demonstrates the association of risk conditions as being key factors for health outcomes.
  4. Distinguish the role of behavioral determinants of positive health outcomes.
  5. Compare and contrast LM to other fields of health and wellness.
  6. List the pillars and core competencies of LM.
  7. Describe the Travis Illness-Wellness continuum.
  8. Recall how the process of health through LM complements PNE+.
