DMU may provide reasonable assistance to learning opportunities required for degree completion for students with temporary medical conditions who meet the program's technical standards, with or without temporary medical assistance. This may happen when a student experiences an illness, injury, or surgery that impairs their ability to meet the technical standards without assistance, or at the onset of what may become a long-term disability.
As part of a request for Temporary Assistance, we require some documents. We understand the changing nature of some temporary assistance and will do our best to guide you through what is needed.
- Completed Student Request for Temporary Assistance form. This form initiates the interactive process and is available from Academic Support
- Documentation of the presence of an impairment that substantially limits a major life activity of the student from a qualified professional with comprehensive training and relevant experience
The ideal documentation would include a:
- Formal diagnosis (or description of symptoms)
- How the impairment impacts major life activities (personally and/or academically)
- Recommended accommodations
- Expected duration (new, lifelong)
