The 2020 Iowa Diabetes & Wellness Summit will take place virtually the mornings of November 12 and November 19. The two half days will each include a keynote speaker, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities!

We look forward to bringing this event to you all in a new format and making it accessible to folks who may not have been able to join previously. Stay tuned for registration information in the coming months!
 

Share your expertise! Submit an abstract!

The Program Development Committee is seeking proposals addressing all aspects of diabetes prevention and management. This is a great opportunity to share your work with diabetes educators, clinicians, dietitians and other professionals working across Iowa. Submissions are due August 10.

The committee is particularly interested in reviewing proposals in the following areas:

  • Communication (patient-centered, and health messaging broadly)
  • Technology (telehealth, CGMs)
  • Social impacts & coordinated care/health equity
  • Intuitive eating
  • Medications
  • Trauma-informed care
  • Behavioral and mental health
  • Wellness & physical activity
  • Reimbursement
  • Diabetes care and education specialist role in population health management
  • Emergency response/preparedness

Target Audience

Public health professionals, physicians, podiatrists, nurses, advance practice nurses, chiropractors, physical therapists, health coaches, certified diabetes educators, dietitians, pharmacists, diabetes prevention program facilitators, diabetes self-management education coordinators, and third-party payers.

Sharing Table

We are going to provide a sharing table again this year at the conference.  Sharing tables allow for conference attendees to bring information/flyers about what they are doing in the area of diabetes prevention and management and share with other attendees. Feel free to share!

    Diana Isaacs, PharmD, BCPS, BC-ADM, BCACP, CDCES is a remarkable human, diabetes expert and advocate. Dr. Isaacs earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Dr. Isaacs also completed a pharmacy practice residency at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center.She is the recipient of the prestigious 2020 AADE Educator of the Year Award and is the president of AADE’s Ohio Coordinating Body in addition to many other leadership and volunteer activities. She is the Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) guru and Program Coordinator at the Cleveland Clinic Diabetes Center. As an innovator, Dr. Isaacs engages participants in her group classes by focusing on their successes and helping with problem-solving through group activities.
    Joe Solowiejczyk, RN, MSW, CDCES is a diabetes nurse educator and family therapist who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for over 50 years. He created a company, A Mile in My Shoes, to ensure that patients and families living with diabetes worldwide would have access to the most practical and up-to-date information needed to manage living with diabetes and thrive while doing so.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    • All cancellations must be received in writing at cme@dmu.edu.
    • A nonrefundable administrative fee of $20 will be charged for all cancellations.
    • No refunds will be given three (3) business days prior to the activity start date.
    • Cancelled registrations can be transferred to another individual for the same activity.
    • Individuals who fail to attend the activity (no-shows) will not receive any refund. Forfeited fees may not be applied to any other activity.
